A GGP of mine and a Union Army Private (Pa 48th Infantry, Company A; #157434), Bernard Wiest, died 1 May 1862 several weeks after his regiment's engagement during the Battle of New Bern, reportedly of typhoid fever on "Craven St G H Newberne, North Carolina." Can I assume he would have been hospitalized at the Coor-Cook House?

Per John Green's book, "A New Bern Album" on page 73, the Coor-Cook House was Stanley Hospital during the Union occupation and was the Officer's Ward. Private Weist was most likely not hospitalized there. More likely, Foster General Hospital that was encompassed in that block bounded by Craven-Broad-Middle-New Streets. HTH
